Summit Support: Resources for Business Owners
BottomLine Growth Strategies understands that financial strategy is one of several key business areas you must excel at in order to summit success. Excellence in branding, marketing, human resources, production, distribution and any number of additional business competencies (depending on your industry) are required for growth and the attainment of your overall objectives.
The following resources are provided to you as a simple starting point for researching topics relevant to your business and outside the financial strategy arena. There are hundreds of excellent resources available and we choose those we think give a good “101” on each topic, as well as our most highly recommended books on business:
• Distribution & Licensing: Multiple articles from Entrepreneur Magazine Online detailing the in’s and out’s of what can be a complicated process. Includes information about product licensing basics and finding a distributor.
• Managing Human Resources: A University of California, Berkeley resource, this web site covers everything from managing conflict to working with union representatives.
• What is Branding: An About.com definition of branding with additional resources/articles also listed. You might find it helpful in understanding the importance and “how-to” of creating a competitive brand for business success.
• High Altitude Leadership: What the World's Most Forbidding Peaks Teach Us About Success: After meeting on a charity climb in the Andes, authors Chris Warner and Don Schminke discovered they held similar opinions on human nature and management techniques, from which they developed the concept of "high altitude leadership.” In this compelling book, they identify eight psychological mindsets that paralyze organizations and individuals, undermining productivity: Fear, Selfishness, Tool Seduction, Arrogance, Lone Heroism, Cowardice, Comfort and Gravity.
• Good to Great: Why Some Companies Make the Leap … and Others Don’t: Author Jim Collins reveals the common traits that great companies share – traits that challenge many of the conventional notions of corporate success. Peppered with dozens of stories and examples from the great and not so great, the book offers a well-reasoned road map to excellence that any organization would do well to consider.
