I came across this article and it rings true from what I have seen in situations that don’t work. Having formerly been a turnaround CFO, I have seen some “spectacularly unsuccessful” situations before turning them around. I particularly like Habits #6 and 7 in the attached article. As CEOs, we need to be willing to know when to call it quits on a project or initiative that isn’t working. This means being comfortable in admitting the initiative a failure or an experiment that didn’t pan out the way we had hoped, cutting your losses and moving on. Not surprisingly, in the turnarounds I’ve worked on , the employees in the organization below the C-level often know the project is a failure. How different the results would be for these CEOs if they had just listened to their folks on the line.
